Discover the history of the famous Venetian masks during a mask-making class given by a local craftsman.
Made in the city of Venice for centuries, these masks are made of paper-mache and are generally decorated with feathers, paint and colorful tissue-paper and jewelry.
In the heart of Venice, participate in a mask-making or mask-decorating class.
- Mask-making
The teacher will show you the creative techniques used for these particular masks made from paper-mache while telling you all about the history of these face-masks and their use since generations.
- Mask-decorating
The professional craftsman will show you how to paint and decorate your own Venetian mask. You will use different traditional materials to transform your mask into the ultimate Carnival accessory.
At the end of your class, leave with your personalized and authentic mask!

- Availability: Monday to Sunday (excluding exceptional dates)
- Departure point: a workshop close to St. Mark’s Square
- The tour may be conducted in more than one language, according to the composition of the group
- Tour for 6 people maximum
- Participants can keep their creations at the end of the class
- For the mask-making class, participants will need to return to the workshop 6 hours after the end of the activity in order to let your masks dry
- Appropriate clothing is recommended
- If you would like to participate in both the mask-making and mask-decorating class on the same day, you will need to book this workshop tour twice and you will participate in the mask-making class of 9am and the mask-decorating workshop at 5:30pm in order to give time for your mask to dry
- If you would like to participate in both workshops on the same day but only after the 9am class, you will decorate a mask previously readied for the decorating class as your mask will not yet have dried
- Unfortunately this activity is not fully accessible for wheelchair users or people with walking disabilities
- The course does not operate in case of exceptional high tide (it can be postponed or it will be refunded)
Between 7 and 4 days prior: 50% of the price
After this time and in case of a no-show: 100% of the price
Any reservation made for special dates cannot be cancelled, modified or refunded.
