Use your time in Quito to head to the Equator line and the monument in the Middle of the World!
You'll be driven from your hotel or meet-up point in Quito, to the "Middle of the World" (or Mitad del Mundo), 22 kilometres north of Quito.
It was a French scientist, Charles-Marie de la Condamine, who mapped the Equator line, which divides Earth into two hemispheres.
Position yourself over the Equator line, so you can show everyone that you literally had one foot in the Northern Hemisphere and one in the Southern Hempisphere!
The line is marked by the 17th century "La Mitad del Mundo" (Middle of the Word) monument.
It now houses the Intiñan Museum which you can visit with your guide. Take part in experiments that defy the laws of physics. You can take part in fun experiments, which reproduce balance and rotation phenomena that only occur at the exact place where the latitude and longitude are 0!
Thanks to this museum and your guide, you'll learn all about the city's history and local culture.
This visit's perfect for young and old alike, and is a must-do during a trip to Ecuador.
