Experience the traditional diving culture of Jeju and discover the daily life of the Haenyeo, the island’s famous female free divers!
You will head to the activity site on the coast of Jeju where you will meet the Haenyeo divers. These women have preserved a centuries-old tradition of free diving to harvest seafood from the sea. This unique cultural practice was recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016.
Your experience will begin with a short training session during which the team will introduce the activity and help you get equipped with the same gear used by the real Haenyeo divers.
Once ready, you will head out to sea alongside the Haenyeo to discover their traditional diving techniques. You will observe how they work and take part in harvesting seafood while experiencing diving in the waters of Jeju.
During the activity, you will alternate between diving sessions and rest periods at the surface, where you will practice breathing exercises similar to those used by the Haenyeo in their daily work.
At the end of the experience, the seafood collected during the activity will be prepared and cut on site before being tasted. This convivial moment will allow you to enjoy fresh local flavors while experiencing a unique part of Jeju’s cultural heritage.
