Explore the wild landscapes of southwest Tasmania on a full-day experience combining scenic flight, cultural discovery, and a cruise through a pristine environment from Hobart!
You will make your way to Cambridge Aerodrome for the start of your tour. After check-in, you will board a light aircraft for a scenic flight to Southwest National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed area. From the air, you will fly over Hobart’s eastern suburbs, the Derwent River, the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, and Recherche Bay, before reaching South East Cape, the southernmost point of Tasmania.
You will then follow the south coast to Melaleuca, where your aircraft will land on a remote airstrip surrounded by wilderness. On arrival, your guides will take you on the Needwonnee Walk, an award-winning Aboriginal interpretive experience that shares over 40,000 years of history of the region’s original inhabitants.
You will continue with a visit to the Melaleuca Museum, dedicated to the more recent history of this remote area. Depending on the season and conditions, you may also have the opportunity to spot the endangered orange-bellied parrot from the Deny King Bird Hide.
You will then embark on a scenic cruise along Melaleuca Inlet and into Bathurst Harbour and Port Davey, a vast and untouched wilderness area more than three times the size of Sydney Harbour.
A lunch showcasing local produce will be served, accompanied by award-winning Tasmanian wines. You will then return by air to Cambridge, flying over Federation Peak, Mount Picton, Huonville, and the city of Hobart to conclude your tour.
