Explore the volcanic Española Island and swim with sea lions and other marine life on Gardner Island!
Discover Española Island, the oldest island in the Galápagos archipelago, estimated to be over 4 million years old. The Galápagos sea lions and marine iguanas found along the coast will be there to greet you on arrival.
Starting at the port of San Cristobal Island, hop aboard your boat towards Española Island. When you arrive at your destination, the tour kicks off with a hike covering about 2 kilometres; admire the bird species that are only found in the archipelago, such as the Española mockingbird and the Galápagos buzzard. You could even be lucky enough to spot the Galápagos albatross, which is usually present on the island between April and September. These birds make their nests on the lava fields of the island's volcano.
Once you've taken a peek, it'll be time to visit one of the island's must-sees, the 'blowhole'. This water fountain is created by the waves of the sea, with jets rising from the ground to a height of up to 25 metres.
A packed lunch will be provided at lunchtime. This will consist of typical Ecuadorian fare.
After lunch, head to the small islet, Gardner Island. This is one of the best spots in the archipelago to see the Galápagos sea lions, Pacific turtles, and plenty of other marine species while snorkelling. The playful and curious sea lions won't hesitate to come say hello during this activity!
Head back to the port of San Cristobal Island at the end of the day.
